Council Member Barbara Underwood
I am Barbara Underwood, your newly elected Payson Town Council Member. I have had the pleasure to call Payson my home for over 39 years, and have seen Payson grow in many positive ways.
I have been married to Patrick for 42 years
Together we have been blessed with 2 daughters who attended Payson Schools from Kindergarten through 12 grades. Becky Prock, who is currently working as the Admission Director for Rim Country Health and Karen Ormand, who is teaching 1st grade at Payson Elementary School.
The loves of our lives are our 7 grandchildren. Lexi currently a Junior at ASU, studying at the WP Cary business school, is planning on a career in the Human Resources field. Alyssa a senior at Payson High School and is involved as a Varsity Cheerleader, a member of DECA and a Peer Counselor. Marissa who loves drama and music, and Chance who enjoys sports, are 7th graders at Rim Country Middle School. Ayden, who is a 6th grader at RCMS, also enjoys sports. The two youngest grandchildren, Ashlyn, our gymnast, and Tara, our dancer, are 5th graders at Julia Randall Elementary School.
Patrick and I have been self-employed business owners for over 40 years. We opened Mario’s Restaurant here in Payson in 1977 and later bought land and built a bigger restaurant and an office complex on 260. We also invested in land and developed a couple of subdivisions and owned some other commercial buildings.
I have deep roots and a lot of time and effort invested in Payson. This is my hometown and I am committed to do all that I can to make you as proud to live here as I am.
Currently I am volunteering on:
• The Payson Senior Center Board as Treasurer
• The Mogollon Sporting Association as Treasurer
• The Payson School Board as President
• The Arizona School Board Association as Gila County Director
As you can tell I have a lot of energy and passion for serving the Payson Community. I believe that understanding the history of our town is important. My 39 years have given me a perspective on where the town started with incorporation, how it has grown, and a vision that will respect the past and preserve a healthy future for Payson. I look forward to listening to your great ideas to make Payson a town we can all be proud to call home and that others will want to adventure here.
