Payson Police Department Overview

The jurisdiction of the Payson Police Department is approximately 25 square miles. The population of the Town of Payson is 15,301.

Police Department Sections

Administration

Administrative duties for the Payson Police Department are coordinated through Celena Ortiz. All inquiries relating to the Police Chief's schedule, financial issues, purchases, and billing, can be addressed by contacting Celena Ortiz at 928.472.5057, or by e-mail at cortiz@paysonaz.gov

Patrol

Provides patrol services, K-9 Operations, and participates in numerous multi-agency task forces.

Communications

Provides dispatch services for Police Department, Payson Fire Departments three fire stations and Hellsgate fire Department in addition to handling all 911 and public calls for assistance.

Criminal Investigations

The Criminal Investigation Division, (C.I.D.) is responsible for the follow up investigations of reported crimes and incidents that are usually generated through the initial reporting of a crime to a Uniformed Patrol Officer. Members of the C.I.D. are on a 24 hour, seven-day call out status for response to major crimes, homicide, robbery, major burglaries, etc.

Special Enforcement

The primary function of the Narcotics Division is to investigate drug crimes. The Narcotics Division works with County, State and Federal taskforces to identify and arrest individuals who are involved in the manufacturing, sale and use of illicit narcotics.

Special Response Team

The mission of the Special Response Team (SRT) is to enhance officer safety through the use
of teamwork, specialized equipment and training. The SRT works closely with the negotiation unit,
K-9 unit and the Special Enforcement Officer Division (SEO.)

Support Services

Provides non-patrol type functions Records Management, and Property & Evidence Management. Records personnel also assist with lobby traffic, phone calls, and radio communication traffic.
